How to choose between large format output DYE or UV inks?
The UV ink is used primarily for banner stand graphics that will be used all the time and may be exposed to bright lights or direct Sun for extended periods of time. For retail store banners in windows facing the outdoors, UV graphic output may be the better choice.
The dye ink is used for display graphics, for the brightness and pop. Exposed to sunlight less frequently, minimal fading occurs, and the benefit is brighter colors than UV.
The best materials for best results:
For our graphic display panels we use opaque 12 mil. Polyester 'OpalJet 300' (imported from England) laminated with PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) 10' mil. velvet Lexan (PolyCarbonate).
The Opaljet 300 is a revolutionary media that allows one pass finishing for pop up display systems. It makes for a more robust finished display, in comparison to traditional laminate/photo base media/Stoplight sandwiches, which are prone to de lamination if incorrectly handled.
The Opaljet is a custom extrusion of DuPont Teijin Melinex WLB film, made exclusively at 300 micron gauge, for Kentmere in England.
Opaljet 300 has a silver stop light layer co-extruded within the film, ensuring bright saturated displays even in strong, mixed lighting. These make a 22 mil. thick print, which is strong and hangs well on the display. These are the best materials available at any cost.
Some people use PVC laminate which is cheaper, softer and easier to cut. It looks like Lexan, but nowhere near as durable.
On the banner stand materials, we have a couple of options:
1.BanRJet 125, 5 mil. thick. We laminate a satin 3.2 mil.,PSA, UV Calendared Vinyl. This makes for a flexible, rolled up print, that springs to life and 'POPS' your graphics. This is more flexible/durable than 'Duratrans' which is widely used on 'typical' high end banner stands.
2.LexJet 6 mil. water resistant Satin Cloth. It has a patented luminescent layer to focus the light back through the cloth. This makes the graphic print really light up. This material is not laminated. It is printed with UV based ink which is guaranteed not to fade for 5 years by HP. The advantage to this cloth is that it is about 25% cheaper than the BanRJet, and is more forgiving to the effects of mishandling.
